As distinct as son is from father is from grandfather, in how they view manhood, there is one role upon which they all seem to agree, and that is as a soldier – because for them, life as a black man in America is a battlefield with no promise of survival.”

African Continuum presents a professional production, of a Washington, D.C. premiere, The Legend of Buster Neal, with a cast of six (6) African American male actors.

A fearless civil rights activist reappears after 60 years to face his greatest challenge, his great-great grandson. The themes of the play are timely for all generations of African Americans, especially the males—absent parenting; the difficulty relating to the struggles of past generations; responsibility for self and family; the fear within fathers to be responsible for their children; the use of the word “nigga;” and how we all can find fault in others, so we don’t concentrate on our own.  The play works to find needed reconciliation and meaningful relationships between African American men.
